Ultraviolet light is part of our environment, found in sunlight; however we do not recommend using sunlight as a source of UV energy to cure any of our UV Adhesive products. Using the 16watts UV Light to cure KEYBOND UV Glue will give you the optimal results in 60 - 120 secs.
16 Watts UV Curing Light with stainless steel body.
We suggest the use of UV Light which works at a wavelength of 320 – 400 nanometer. This lamp can help cure KEY BOND UV Adhesive in approximately 1 -2 minutes. When using KEY BOND products, an ultraviolet light curing lamp emitting long wavelength (UV-A) peaking at 320 – 400 nanometers must be used to cure the UV glue and obtain adhesion.
The sun is a poor substitute for UV-A energy.
Please visit our UV Bonding Lamp - FAQ Page to get more info on UV Curing Light.
We recommend using UV protective Eyewear during the use of UV Curing Light.
Q: Can we use it for external use?
A: We do not recommend using it for external use , as the UV Adhesive is not waterproof. However if you want to use it for external purpose we recommend to bonding surfaces must additionally be sealed with clear silicone.
Q: Does the adhesive work in extreme temperatures?
A: Our glue works at the temperature range of -20°C to +100°C. Check theTechnical Data Sheet to get more information.
Q: How must the parts be prepared prior to gluing?
A: Download the Application Method sheet to get details on how to prepare and apply the glue. For more information please contact us.
Q: Can I mix different UV adhesives?
A: No, This will hinder the characteristics of the adhesive and will result in negativity of the bond.
Q: How do I remove excess adhesive?
A: If the excess adhesive is still wet, just wipe it off with a clean, lint-free paper towel and some glass cleaner (Iso-propanol or similar), and check that you have removed all excess glue before carrying on. If the excess adhesive has already cured and is hard, you will have to use a glass scraper. Make sure you do not scratch the glass surface!
Q: Do I have to apply a lot of adhesive?
A: No. Evenly spread the adhesive on the surface you want to bond. However, after having worked 3 or 4 times with the UV bonding technology, you will have the right idea for the correct quantity.
Q: Is the adhesive dangerous?
A: We do not recommend swallowing the adhesive. Try not to use the glue without proper care and protection. To see more info on the glue please see our Material Safety Data Sheet.
Q: Can I repair car windshields?
A: No. We do not recommend the use of the adhesive for external use.
Q: Can I fill in gaps of irregular glass with it?
A: Now. However you can cover the gap with another piece of glass, metal or wood.
Q: Can I disassemble the object if I make a mistake?
A: Yes. The bond can only be broken at a temperature of 133°C.
Q: Can I build aquariums with the adhesive?
A: No. We recommend using our laminated glass for extra security and for bonding we recommend the use of silicon. As the adhesive is not water proof.
Q: How do I apply the adhesive?
A: Please download our Application Method sheet to get details on how to prepare and apply the glue. For more information please contact us.
Q: What is the shelf life of the adhesive?
A: If the bottle is stored properly in a cool, dark and dry place the shelf life is 12 months. Once the bottle is opened the life of the adhesive is 6 months.
Q: How do I know that I have reached final bond strength?
A: See curing times and our Application Method Sheet.
Q: How strong is the adhesive?
A: Considering all the step of the bonding process has been carried out correctly the bond will be stronger than the glass itself.
Q: Will the adhesive lose strength when it gets older?
A: No, if all steps of the bonding process have been carried out correctly.
Q: What adhesive do I use?
A: Please see our list of UV Glass Adhesive to see which glue suits you the best.
Q: Can I bond laminated glass?
A: Yes, but with only our UV Adhesive K-703.
Q: Can I bond to the backside of the mirror?
A: Due to safety reasons, we do not advise to try such bonds.
Q: Can I bond coloured glass?
A: Yes, we recommend the use of UV Adhesive K-701, considering the curing time will increase due to the tinting of the glass.
Q: Can I bond on top of a mirror?
A: Yes, we recommend the use of UV Adhesive K-701, the reflection of the mirror wall will cure the adhesive.
Q: Can I bond glass, which is not cleaned and polished?
A: We do not recommend using such glass as the differences in the layer thickness of the adhesive will lead to tensions in the bonding area, which will result in cohesion cracks in the adhesive and finally breakage of the bond.
Q: Can I bond tempered glass?
A: Yes, we recommend using our UV Adhesive K-701; however we do not recommend it using for exterior use, use the bonding for internal use only.
Q: Can I bond plastic and glass?
A: Yes, but with only our UV Adhesive K-706.
Q: Can I bond wood and glass?
A: Yes, we recommend the use of UV Adhesive K-704.
Q: Can I bond sandblasted glass?
A: Yes, we recommend the use of UV Adhesive K-703; however the pre-curing time has to be observed exactly, as cleaning hardened glue on sandblasted glass will be extremely difficult. Prepare test bonding before you start the final job!
Q: Can I bond metal and glass?
A: Yes, we recommend the use of UV Adhesive K-702.
|Q: Can I use the light of a counterfeit money detector? |
A: Due to different wavelength emitted, the adhesive may cure eventually, but will not reach the desired strength.
Q: How long can I wait between pre-curing and final curing?
A: Maximum 1-2 hours, but the bonding area should not be exposed to sunlight during that time. However, usually final curing is done shortly after pre- curing.
Q: Can I use a lamp I already have?
A: Only if it is a lamp designed for UV bonding. Any other UV lamps will emit a different wavelength of UVA light and are not recommended.
Q: Do I need a UV lamp?
A: Yes, you will need a special lamp, which triggers the adhesive’s reaction at the correct UVA wavelength of 320-400 nm.
Q: Can I use a lamp from a sun-bed?
A: No, due to a different wavelength emitted, the adhesive may cure eventually, but will not reach the necessary strength.
Q: Can I use sunlight for curing?
A: Generally, it is possible to activate the polymerisation process of the adhesive by sunlight, as sunlight is a natural source of UV Light. However, due to the missing concentration of the correct wavelength no sufficient bonding strength will be reached. We strongly recommend not to natural sunlight for curing.
Q: What is the lifetime of a lamp?
A: Most lamps last for approx. 3,000 hours. In time, the intensity of the UV rays weakens, which results in longer curing times. The life of the bond depends on the use of the lamp.
Q: Is the light harmful to the eyes or skin?
A: Yes, we do not recommend looking at the light directly and the use of our UV Protective Eyewear.
